Cibrian Heads To The Sunshine State

Eddie Cibrian will join the cast of CSI: Miami as a series regular when the eighth season begins in the fall.

Cibrian's character is an as-yet-unnamed officer from the Hollywood division of the Los Angeles Police Department who transfers to the Miami-Dade Police Department. According to Miami's producers, Cibrian will not be replacing Adam Rodriguez's character Eric Delko, who went missing in the season seven finale, "Seeing Red". The premiere of season eight will air Monday, September 21 at 10:00pm ET/PT.

As CSI Files previously reported, Megalyn Echikunwoke( Dr Tara Price)'s departure from Miami during the penultimate episode of season seven ("Dissolved") leaves her character's fate up in the air. While it is not known whether Echikunwoke will be back, it seems that her predecessor, Khandi Alexander (Dr Alexx Woods), is not scheduled to return to the morgue any time soon. Alexander will be one of the main characters on Treme, the upcoming HBO series about post-Katrina New Orleans.

The original information about Cibrian joining Miami is from People and Reuters. Thanks to mandy9578 for the heads up. The premiere date for season eight is from Hitfix. The news about Alexander is from TV Guide.

Eddie Cibrian will always remind me of the awesomeness that was 'Sunset Beach'.

I loved that show.

Re: Cibrian Heads To The Sunshine State

I'll be interested to see how Eddie's character fits into the team and what his role will be on the show (friend, nemesis - with Miami, you never know ).

I'm also curious to see what happens with the coroner situation. It would be interesting to see Megalyn Echikunwoke* come back after the stolen drug situation, but I'm not convinced that we'll see her (unless they make her a villain out to get Ryan or something - that wouldn't surprise me at all ). Without Khandi coming back (and while that would have been cool, I wasn't counting on that one because of the Treme role), it looks like we're going to need a new coroner.

I'm kind of surprised that they're adding a new guy without getting rid of anyone, and to add a police officer when the show needs a coroner is even more surprising. Maybe they'll bring in temporary coroners, or maybe they'll get one person to take Dr Price's place. Or maybe they'll bring that one guy back from the end of S6/beginning of S7 that was in on Horatio's fake death stunt...I guess we'll see! They can do without coroner scenes for some episodes (and have before), but I'm sure they'll still have a need for a coroner sometimes.

* Sorry, I had to write out her whole name - I learned how to spell it when she joined the show, and I'm afraid I won't have many more chances to type it out if she's gone for good. So I gotta type it while I can.

Re: Cibrian Heads To The Sunshine State

I doubt they'll bring Thomas back. He wasn't actually a M.E. He was an undercover ATF agent. But, I really wish they hadn't killed off Shannon. I liked her even though we didn't see much of her but less than five minutes before she was killed.

I think with the new cop, they're just going to do like they do on Vegas. Have more than one case per ep so they'll need more than one cop to work with. Frank can't be in two places at once.

As for the new guy being a regular, I don't know if he'll be a regular in the sense that he'll be in the opening credits with David, Jon, Eva, Adam, Emily and Rex or if he'll be a regular in the capacity that Liz Vassey (Wendy) and David Berman (SuperDave) are on Vegas. They are referred to as regulars, yet they are not in the opening credits with the main cast.

I very much like Eddie Cibrian though. As long as he's not replacing any of my beloved characters, I'm fine with him joining the cast. Providing of course that the writers get on the ball and learn how to properly develop ALL characters. They just really this past season started to develop Ryan more. Now it is Frank and Natalia's turn.

The first thing I thought when I saw Eddie Cibrian's name was "You mean Nate Burns finally got to move out of Alaska?"

It's interesting that there are two cops now, and two in the regular cast role. Interesting because is this the first time it's happened on a CSI? Or was Sophia Curtis a cop when she was in the opening credits?

Right on! I remember him from Third Watch--his character was great on the show. I'm wishing he won't just be around for part of the season like Meagalyn then end up leaving, because that would just be a waste of his talent!

Sofia was a CSI when she was first added to the opening I believe, but then later while still in the opening she was a cop. then she just disappeared without an explanation.

My first thought as well... and the more gossipy recent news that he had an affair with LeAnn Rimes. Either way, I like him, and he'll so fit in on Miami!

Re: Cibrian Heads To The Sunshine State

The poor guy will always to me either be the guy from Northern Lights or the guy that bashed Prentiss in the head with a 2x4 on CM. It should be an interesting season.

He should be able to fit in as a cop. It'll be interesting to see if they'll make him have friction with the team or if they'll let him just be a cop.

Yay! another hunk to drool over-lol Can Miami get any hotter? I thought about "Northern Lights" too when I saw his name and at least TPTB had the sense to confirm that he's not replacing Adam before people start freaking out.
