Asner Showcased For 'New York' Role

Variety included Ed Asner in a showcase of guest stars up for Emmy consideration.

As CSI Files previously reported, several actors and actresses were submitted in the "Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series" and "Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series" categories for their stints on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: New York. Variety's short list names breakout performances from the ballot. Asner was one of the 18 drama guest stars showcased for his role on New York.

In "Yahrzeit", Asner played Abraham Klein, a Jewish clockmaker and Holocaust survivor. The character had a dark secret that was revealed over the course of the investigation: Klein's real name was Klaus Braun. He was a member of the Hitler Youth who pretended to be a Jew in order to hide from his past. In her review for "Yahrzeit", CSI Files' Kristine Huntley said of Asner's role:

As Abraham/Klaus, Ed Asner turns in a powerful performance, segueing with chilling ease between the adamant Abraham to the decidedly evil Klaus, who goes from proclaiming he's a Jew who was at Auschwitz to stating in German that "we should have killed them all."

I'm not surprised Variety put Asner on the short list - he did a phenomenal job in "Yahrzeit". He was so creepy in that final scene, especially when the mask came off and we saw the real man come through in Braun's facial expression.

I hope he gets nominated!

A truly powerful performance, indeed. It's nice to see Variety put him on their shortlist... definitely a deserving performance. That transition was chilling! I found him so sympathetic at first, so that final scene was really shocking.... Definitely an impressive performance. I hope he gets nominated!

I would hope that his incredible performance coupled with the fact that he's Ed freaking Asner will get him a nomination and then a win. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
