David Caruso (CSI: Miami's Horatio Caine) is being sued by his ex-girlfriend, Liza Marquez, who filed a multi-count lawsuit on April 9, claiming that he was emotionally abusive.
The nine-count lawsuit includes Breach of Contract/Settlement Agreement, Fraud and Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress (Domestic Abuse). Among the allegations made in the suit, Marquez claims that Caruso abused her mentally and emotionally, and she says he accused her of cheating on him. The suit also claims that Caruso asked Marquez to have an abortion when she was pregnant with their first child, Marquez Anthony, who is now three years old.
Marquez claims that Caruso broke up with her and served her with a paternity action when she came home from the hospital after giving birth to their daughter Paloma Raquel in October 2007. The suit also describes an agreement reached between Marquez and Caruso in August 2008 in which Caruso promised to pay Marquez $1 million. Months later, Marquez claims, Caruso went back on his word.
On Friday, Caruso's representatives denied the allegations, and his attorneys filed papers to depose Marquez. "Last month David became concerned about the welfare of his children and sought court assistance to redefine David's and Liza's custodial schedules," Caruso's representative said in a statement. "It now appears that Liza has decided to retaliate by raising false claims against David, which David finds unfortunate since these claims will divert the parties' and the court's attention away from the best interests of the children."
The original information is from TV Guide and Radar Online here and here.
