Writers Take On A New Frontier

Two writers trade outer space for Sin City.

Science fiction writers David Weddle and Bradley Thompson will try their hand at forensic drama. The pair are leaving the SciFi Channel series Battlestar Galactica to join CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. They will write for the show and work as supervising producers.

The move to CSI forced the pair to cancel writing the Battlestar telemovie. "When we got the offer, we had to call [executive producer] Ron Moore and ask to be released from the movie," Weddle told SyFy Portal. "It was one of the most difficult calls we ever had to make, but Ron made it easy by telling us we should seize this new opportunity."

Weddle and Thompson got started with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Moore, a former executive producer for Deep Space Nine, invited them to join the writing staff of Battlestar. Starting July 7, the pair will begin working on the CBS drama.

The original article is from SyFy Portal. You can find out more about all things Star Trek at Trek Today.

I think it will be refreshing to have some new writers and will be interesting to see what they add to the team. Congrats guys!

first time i read this i was like 'WHAT?' but then i realized that it could actually be quite beneficial for the show. i just hope we won't get any UFO/X Files-like cases. but i do trust TPTB that the show will continue to be as realistic as it is now.

Will the CSIs use tricorders at the crime scenes? How about Geordi's visor?

David Weddle and Bradley Thompsons' work on Battlestar Galactica has been amazing. BSG is not your typical sci-fi show at all. It's more like The West Wing in space! Maybe I should consider watching CSI again.

Cool, so the next time Nick gets buried alive, he can just say "Beam Me Up Hodges!"
