Caruso: Interactivity Has To Be The Foundation

Tradition makes way for an interactive experience.

CSI: Miami star David Caruso (Horatio Caine) is the founder, chairman and CEO of a new online company called Lexicon Digital Communications. Nils Lahr is the co-founder and CTO of Lexicon, and Frank Nein is SVP of business development and marketing communications. Lahr was one of the architects of Microsoft's Windows Media platform, and Nein has 15 years of experience in the streaming and telco industries.

Lexicon is in "stealth mode" right now, so there aren't many details available. However, it is clear that interactivity and access are important to the company's plans. "The coming generation isn't interested in traditional entertainment," Caruso explained to Streaming Media. "I've been pretty clear about that and shared my thoughts with CSI creators and CBS that in order to begin the preparation for the coming generation, interactivity has to be the basis and the foundation."

One example of what Caruso implied would be to give the audience access to CSI as individual shots and music elements, allowing them to create their own version of the show. "If viewers were able to do that, would they not then be more likely to show up on a Monday evening in a way that they wouldn't now be interested in?" Caruso asked.

The actor also pointed out the necessity of making content easy to access. "If I'm a Seinfeld fan, and I'm in Singapore, I just want to be able to watch the show," he said. "I don't want to think about different devices and connections. We want to create a solution that takes everything you need and delivers it to you."
