I haven't really seen any of season 9. The "family feel" the writers included was partly why I started watching in the first place; and this past season it wasn't there because three of the CSI's were gone. I know Warrick can never come back (I will never understand why they had to kill him and not just have him go on hiatus), but bringing back Sara and/or Grissom will, imo, bring back some of the family feel to the show.

But I cannot wait to see today's premier, I haven't been this excited about CSI in a while! <3

I wonder if the serial killer arc launches tonight. Or is it episode 2 that it starts? Hmm.

According to the spoiler thread, in the Spoilertv section for the first ep plot line, MFCSI submitted info that the arc will start at the end of the ep.

Wanna bet Grissom sent Nick the spider and book as a present? :)

Well, so much for my instant critiquing skills.

~Oh look, freezeframe. Hee! Awesome Doc Robbins shot, I might add. (Okay, this is actually kind of cool. But also very, very creepy.)
~And if you were living in a hole and didn't know that Sara was coming back, now you know.
~Nick doesn't look very happy about the spider thing. Hee.
~Seriously, I hate that they made Riley the bad guy. Especially since the actress got fired. She didn't do anything wrong except play a neglected character.
    ~Level 2, huh?
~*fist punch of victory* Liz is in the credits! Oop, wait, David Berman is too! :D
~Feisty Greg. And Ray tries to lessen the blow, but Nick stops him. Interesting.
~Hee! Ecklie totally knows, too. He's kind of being a bit of a bastard, but I actually love it today.
~“Most likely” “Doubtful” Hee. (I think the quotes are wrong, but the basics are there.)
~“It hasn’t been bothering me. And that’s what’s bothering me.” That makes sense, really.
~Oh no. Hodges, do not speak. Please don’t.
~ I loved that. “Actually, I was forced out of my profession. Little angel of death thing.” What’s funny is that technically it’s true. *g*
    ~Pissy Ecklie.
    ~SARA!!!!!
~Interesting that Greg knows she’s married. (I assume that the others knew, too.)
~Aw. At least Hodges apologized instead of pretending that he didn’t do anything.
~“I like his attitude.” “Remind you of you?” Hee.
~Hodges just pulled Wendy out of the way of the bullets. Excuse me while I squee.
~Nice to see some optimism, Sara.
~I love that all Nick can say is “Alright. Thanks.” Great smile, too.
~And…. Cut to black. Cliffhanger! Hm.

Did anyone else find the episode's version of the shootout kind of... anti-climactic? Or is it just me?

"Pornhouse... Drughouse... must have had good block parties". Hee.

It was actually nice to see Sara back. I liked the beginning how they went back, and it was cool that they threw the ending twist in their. The hobo being Oliva's father that was pretty neat.

Catherine...man I can't stand her. Nick trying to defend her and she berates him for it. He's so much nicer than I am...

Was a bit shocked by Greg, was like wow somebody's a bit testy but he has his reasons and I love me some Greg and Nick scene with the spider.

The angel of death, yeah that was great lol the heart monitar beeping louder as he was starting to get nervous lol.

So all in all, I liked the episode!

Holy little fight between Greg and Nick, batman.

Super Dave is in the credits!!! :D

Hodges took responsibility for something?

Doc Robbins, remind me not to piss you off!!!

    Super Dave fought too.

Nick touching a spider? :shifty: and one of Grissom's tarantula's has been lurking around the lab for how many years? :wtf:

Nick gets promoted! :D I'm going to have be a Nick fan here and say I think it sucks that his promotion should have been the only promotion that episode. For pete's sake, George/Nick has been there since day one and it should have just been him. An announcement could have been made and a little celebration. Geesh, the last time he was promoted the celebration was cut short. :wtf: Give the guy some due.

Riley - yeah, they made her the bad guy, but I also think some of Riley's criticisms of Catherine were off, since Riley had issues with authority herself.

Nick, "Alright, thanks." :wtf: That's all you had to say? Thought it was funny how Catherine gives him the files and tells him do these 5 evaluations by tomorrow night.

Overall, I thought it was a great episode. The whole lab under attack thing wasn't as exciting as they made it to be. Maybe they shouldn't have show so much or maybe not even let us know it was going to happen.

Warning: This post is long! I would have categorized the likes and dislikes, but I typed this in the order I wrote it down while watching the episode.

    8 out of 10 - Grade: B+

Oh, so Greg is there when the shootout goes down... he's behind Henry. :D

Hey, this looks cool. Thank god no one dodged bullets Matrix style, that would have been overkill.

The freeze frame expressions are funny. Nick's looks like a comic book character expression on the comic cover. Heehee.

Nick and the spider. He looked scared at first, but then proud of himself.

Figures that Greg would be the first to recognize the actress and admit he liked her.

Ooh- new credit pictures. And Yay! They FINALLY added Liz and David! Woo-hoo!

Okay, I do NOT like the way the Greg scene was written. The guys were way out of character in this scene (except Ray who was the peacemaker which I found interesting and amusing for some reason). They made Greg look like Annakin Skywalker (aka whiny) and then even had Nick comment on it. Sorry, but Nick NEVER would have said that. And then Greg's snarky "Who asked you?" in reply. Nope, totally out of character. Absolutely HATED it with a bright purple passion!

In the past, Nick complained about something very similar, so this scene made him look a bit hypocritical (which is so not Nick)- or perhaps tptb were hoping we'd forget the past- ha! I was actually fearing seeing this scene because I had a feeling it would be totally out of whack and out of character for both of the guys. Didn't like them sniping at each other at all. I love both Greg and Nick, they are my favorite characters and I hated that the writer(s) did this to them. I want them to be friends, but instead the writer(s) made them do a really good impersonation of Ryan and Eric (Miami). It really bugged me because they were way out of character even if they were supposed to be on edge.

They wrote Nick like the older brother trying to parent the younger sibling when younger sib won't listen to Mom and Dad isn't home from work yet. I honestly think this scene could of and should have been handled much differently.

Ray: It hasn't been bothering me and that's what's been bothering me. :) Liked this line. It made sense, but kind of reminded me of Grissom a little for some reason.

Hey, it's the bad terminator guy from the terminator series... and I bet he's gonna be the bad guy on this too.

Cath was out of character in the scene with Nick, Ray and Ecklie. She never would have snapped at Nicky that way. She would have said it much nicer like, "thanks, Nick, but I can defend myself" instead of just a snippy, "I can defend myself".

The scene with Ray and the guy in the hospital freaked me out a bit. I thought Ray was gonna go rogue and hurt the guy for a minute there.

Awww! Greg/Sara hug. Cuteness! When Sara asked how Greg was being treated and he said he was still being treated like the labrat with the crazy hair, that should have been all that was said about him not being happy (instead of the blow-up scene which was so far out of character that it wasn't funny)... then Sara should have gingerly said something to Catherine about Greg feeling a little left out or out of place. Greg's smile when he saw Sara was adorable... and they added that smile in the opening credits! :D

I love the Cath/Sara scene. Love the ladies talking together like this.

Doc, Dave and Ray are kicking butt. :D

So, Hodges was the leak? He made the same mistake sort of that Nick once made (only Nick said it to an old friend from school).

So far, a very good episode with the exception of the Greg blow-up scene. Which would have been okay if they'd left out Nick's comment and then Greg's snipe back at him. Nick is not one to stick his two cents into something that doesn't have anything to do with him. As I said, out of character. Both of them were written like arguing siblings. Didn't like that at all!

Screentime balance is VERY GOOD! Yay! This is the way it should ALWAYS be done. Most of Ray's scenes were with the other cast members rather than him alone or alone with random guest star. Nicely done. Kudos to tptb for that!

Ew! They put the DB through the chopper! At least he was already deceased.

Heehee, I love the Nick/Greg/spider scene. Tied with Greg/Sara hug scene as my favorite. Second fave is the Cath/Sara scene. Anyway, back to the spider. I love the smiles between the guys. Too cute and seems like their earlier disagreement is all gone and forgotten. :) Grissom's spider was named Stevie? Wait... how did Nick know that wasn't his spider anyway and was Grissom's? They looked alike to me. Are the spiders different genders? If so, better keep them away from each other or else the lab will be overrun with baby eight-legged friends.

Cath/Nick promotion scene- Loved it! Loved the "I love you too, Catherine" hehe. Cute. And how he just casually says "All right, thanks." When she promotes him. So subtle, so casual, so Nicky. :D

Ray to Doc: What's up, Doc? That struck me as funny. Couldn't help but think of Bugs Bunny.

Okay, I get that everyone was on edge earlier because they were short-handed, but I still think Greg blowing up over getting a trash run is a bit silly. Over never getting a solo case, fine, but not over a trash run.

So, where is Greg's promotion that he was supposed to get due to him complaining about getting no respect? Is that in a later episode?

Oh and it also bugged me somewhat that they made Riley out to be the villianess. They could have given a better excuse for her leaving than making her the bad guy. Annoying. You created the character, you raved about the character and the actress and then threw them both out like trash and now you make her out to be the bad guy? That's unfair and insulting to the character (whom I thought was great and I loved) as well as to the actress who protrayed her and to the fans of Riley. And it was out of character for Riley IMHO.

Despite the few issues with out of character-ness ( ), I have to say that this premiere was much better than NY's (most of which made me want to go to sleep) and Miami's (which ticked me off so much when I read about it that I haven't even bothered to watch anything more than the last few minutes-which I only watched to see next week's preview).

Job pretty well done, ptb. I'm not always gonna like everything in an episode, but I liked most of the stuff in this episode except for those three things I mentioned. Though I know I had a lot to say about those three things, but I still really liked the episode in spite of those three things. :)

Oh and I loved Nick and Sara both asking each other if they were okay after the gun fight. And the scene where they were going through the remains and started laughing. Cute.

All in all, I absolutely loved Sara in this episode and I think more than I've ever loved her before. It was such a breath of fresh air to see her so happy and smiling (even if I'm not a GSR shipper). It looked good on her. And her intro in the episode almost felt like a new character coming in. It's a new Sara. Loved it! :D

GNRF, I'm going to have to disagree with, just a little bit. Nick and Greg sniping at each other isn't out of character. Actually, I found it a little refreshing, but because, to me, it was more realistic. This team has been together for so long and there is no way they can be happy with each other all the time. I think they need to throw in that kind of tension every once in awhile.

I could see Catherine snapping at Nick like she did. It was in the heat of the moment and realistic.

I can understand you thinking it was out of character, because in a way it was, because we've never seen the characters do that before. However, that's life and co-workers cannot always get along.

I could also see Nick putting his two cents in, he did that way back when Warrick's case came under fire, where the girl was raped and killed by the car wash guy? Nick confronted Warrick about it, so I could see Nick saying what he did.

I understand Greg's frustration and I agree. They probably still think of him as the geeky guy from the lab, I do (I miss that Greg), but he was out of line and, actually, being insubordinate. However, I might have done the same thing if I was in that situation.

Actually, Nick kind of scolding Greg about doing as your supervisor tells you is basically the same thing he said to Sara in "Invisible Evidence" after she complained to Grissom about the case she was working got shelved so the whole team could focus on Warrick's.

So, it's not exactly out of character of him to say that.

Nick saying something to Greg about his "blow-up", yes. What he said, no. Having Nick say, "Greg, it's probably best not to argue and just do what you're asked" would have been much better (and much more in character) than him saying in a snarky tone "He's not supposed to whine about it". That was way off to me and Greg's snippy "who asked you" was way off too. Greg's reply should have been more like, "stay out of it" or "please stay out of it". I don't mind them disagreeing once in a while (because even best friends Nick and Warrick fought once or twice), but I don't want them acting like Eric and Ryan. That scene would have been much more suited for Eric Delko and Ryan Wolfe than it was for Nick Stokes and Greg Sanders. It was just way too snarky for the two of them IMHO. Upset, yeah, defensive, yeah. Snarky? No. Didn't work for me. It was just way too Eric/Ryan for my tastes. I get enough of that on Miami, don't need that kind of stuff on Vegas too. Actually, I'm quite annoyed by it on Miami to be honest.

They're all overworked and understaffed. It's natural for them to be on edge like that. I think they were all just tired and stressed out. Cath said they had a ton of open cases and were understaffed. So, it made sense that they were on edge. I just think Cath should have said "Thank you Nick, but I can defend myself" as opposed to just "I can defend myself". I just think that scene and the Nick/Greg thing could have and should have been handled differently. The dialogue was off a bit to me.

I'm not saying that Nick scolding someone is out of character, I'm saying that the particular words that he chose to say were out of character. As I said, saying "Greg, it's best not to argue and just do as you were asked" would have been much better and much more in character than an insulting comment like "he's whining about it". It was written like two teenagers on 90210 or something of the like. I didn't like it when Grissom said basically the same thing to Nick in the past either ("Nick, you're a grown man, stop whining"). It was out of character then too.

It's bugging me that they are seemingly turning Nick into Grissom in more ways than one. He's calling someone a whiner and he's studying bugs. The bug thing alone is enough like Grissom. They don't need to add the him calling someone a whiner thing too. As I said, it was out of character for Grissom and it's even moreso for Nick. The dialogue in this scene was just not at all what I personally feel that the characters would have said in this situation.

I have no problem with Nick scolding anyone, it is the specific words that were used to do the scolding that I have a beef with.

Did Sara say Grissom was in Paris? Thank goodness, that makes my fic soooo much easier lol

The Snickers fans are gonna have a ball, I know it lol. Despite the whole wedding thing.

Not too bad an ep overall. Creepy ending. I bet it's one of our spoilers but I can't say anymore.

Okay I missed the beginning of the episode and I only came in around the scene with Ecklie and Catherine. So I didn't see some of the beginning stuff, but yeah I think Catherine snapping at Nick did seem a little out of character to me. I loved the shoot-out it was intense and awesome to watch.

My favorite scenes would have to be when Sara shows up, that hug between Sara and Greg was so cute! Not to mention nice to see Greg's adorable smile :). The scene with the spider was nice too, and its tied with the Catherine/Sara scene for me. Overall a nice episode.

I agree that they need to show a little more tension in the workplace to be more realistic, and more interesting.

I think tptb read my critiques from last season.lol. I thought they were presenting the team as being too harmonious, it was just dull. I also wanted Sara and Grissom to marry, Sara and Grissom to make some appearances, and more Greg. And a Greg with an attitude is a bonus. :)

Overall I thought it was a great start to the season. The case took a back seat to the camera work and the characters in this episode, which was okay for me. It was pretty obvious who the killer was going to be. But I loved all the Sara/Greg, Sara/Nick and Sara/Catherine scenes. And I thought the Greg/Nick/Stevie scene at the end was kinda cute. I think they had a hard time saying 'Sara' and 'husband' in the same sentence. I am glad to know there doesn't appear to be any 'trouble in paradise'.

And congrats to Liz and David for making it into the opening credits!

Did anyone else catch Vega on The Mentalist?
